The Intel vPro® platform is available in all form factors, including thin and light laptops, desktops, all-in-one PCs, and workstations so IT benefits from a standardized platform while meeting the needs of all users.
Businesses use the Intel vPro® platform to deliver benefits to performance, security, management, and stability. IT organizations choose the Intel vPro® platform for fewer hardware changes and a more seamless experience for business users.
Additional features in the Intel vPro® platform include connectivity support for Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt™ technology, plus remote management support with Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT). With Intel® AMT activated, IT organizations can access a PC even when it is turned off.
The Intel vPro® platform is included on select Intel® Core™ vPro® processors and Intel® Xeon® processors. It ensures that the latest PC technologies—including security features, manageability capabilities, Wi-Fi 6, Thunderbolt™ 4, and graphics—are integrated and validated to work together.
Most Intel vPro® platform capabilities are hard at work right out of the box.
For example, battery life and business-class performance and productivity features, as well as simplified connectivity and hardware-enhanced security features, function without any action being taken by the user in any product featuring the Intel vPro® platform.
Additional features, including remote management and out-of-band management capabilities, can be unlocked with activation and configuration by an IT team or managed service provider.
Look for the Intel® Core™ vPro® processor badge on your PC. When you see the badge, you know that the PC manufacturer has validated the system as meeting the requirements and specifications for the Intel vPro® platform.

Using the Intel vPro® Platform
Most Intel vPro® platform features are fully functional right out of the box. To enable remote management capabilities, Intel® AMT must be provisioned and enabled. Part of the Intel vPro® platform, Intel® Endpoint Management Assistant (Intel® EMA) is a software tool designed to modernize Intel® Active Management Technology installation and enablement. To disable Intel® Active Management Technology, use your BIOS configuration utility. Restart the computer and press F2 immediately when the screen turns on. You should see the motherboard setup utility. Push the right arrow key to highlight Intel ME at the top of the screen. Select Manageability Feature, then None. Press F10 to save your changes, then restart your computer.
Intel® EMA is designed to make Intel® AMT easy to configure and use. With Intel® EMA, IT can manage devices equipped with Intel vPro® platform technology without disrupting workflow. This simplifies client management and can help reduce management costs for IT organizations.

The current version of Microsoft SCCM is now called Microsoft Configuration Manager. Only Microsoft SCCM 2012 R2 supports the Intel vPro® platform. Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2012 R2 includes built-in support for out-of-band (OOB) management of Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT). This includes the capability to discover and configure Intel® AMT and use some of the OOB features of Intel® AMT.
This add-on was created to enable SCCM to be used with all supported versions of Intel® AMT and integrates components of Intel® Setup and Configuration Software (Intel® SCS) with SCCM. After installation, Intel® SCS replaces the built-in capabilities of SCCM.
Security and Compatibility
Intel® Hardware Shield, available exclusively on the Intel vPro® platform, provides comprehensive hardware-based security features for business.3
Integrated hardware-based PC protection provides more secure business productivity, including below-the-OS-security, application and data security, and advanced threat detection.
Intel® Hardware Shield also offers the industry’s first silicon-enabled AI threat detection to help stop ransomware and cryptomining attacks.4
Most major PC manufacturers offer laptops that are compliant with the Intel vPro® platform. Check for the logo badge, which indicates that the system meets the built-for-business requirements of the Intel vPro® platform.

Part of the Intel vPro® Platform, Intel® SIPP includes an extensive validation program that aims for no hardware changes throughout the buying cycle—for at least 15 months, or until the next generational release.

With fewer hardware changes, users experience fewer interruptions and a more seamless experience. Using Intel® SIPP, businesses can simplify PC setup, operating system installation and transition, configuration, and image deployment.
Intel® AMT is a hardware-based remote management solution that supports the needs of an increasingly mobile workforce for support and management while inside or outside the firewall using tools such as Intel® Endpoint Management Assistant (Intel® EMA).
Intel® AMT also provides persistent out-of-band connectivity. Operating independently of the OS, Intel® AMT allows remote diagnosis and repair even when a system will not run or boot, whether it is on- or off-premises and over both wired and wireless connections.
Additional capabilities in Intel® AMT allow remote management of devices like smart vending machines and digital billboards. With Intel® Endpoint Management Assistant (Intel® EMA), IT teams can manage Intel® AMT devices in the cloud.

If you lose your Intel® AMT password, you can recover it by selecting Reset AMT Defaults under the Server Management tab in the BIOS. This option will only be selectable if you first follow a specific procedure with the server boards. For more information, visit this support page.
