Intel® is Making VR More Immersive, and More Collaborative Through Partnerships
Learn how Intel® is working with it's partners, and developers to make VR more immersive, more collaborative, and where you can go to get access to information, and tools to help you navigate this exciting new space!
Hi, my name's Frank Soqui. I'm the general manager for virtual reality at Intel. You know, SIGGRAPH this year is pretty exciting. It's been all about simulation and design. And what we're seeing this year at SIGGRAPH is taking simulation and design to that next level, making it a lot more immersive and a lot more collaborative.
What we're doing here with HP is showing some of the things you can do with compute that you can take with you, as well as use as a development platform. And we have a Developer Zone where Intel software is talking about what developers can do and the tools that can help them make the most compelling and most immersive type commercial capabilities in VR possible. Been pretty exciting.
On top of it being pretty compelling for commercial, the things that are exciting me about VR right now is we're actually seeing real deployments in the commercial space for VR. Anywhere from medical, or design, or training and simulation, or education, or even brand, right? How people are going to experience things is really through VR, because that's the way we interact in the world today. Things that appear real to us is the way we want to experience it, come to know it, come to understand it, come to collaborate, as well as socialize.
I could talk about technology all day long, but trying to bring it down to a personal reason why I like virtual reality, I think being an artist, it allows me a certain level of creativity and immersiveness I really never had before. Everything we've been doing about, from reading a book to experiencing flat experiences on a screen, have all been about transporting me to somewhere I couldn't normally get as easily and letting me interact with it.
And when I feel like what I do in entertainment, or for business, or for travel, I feel like we're going to invite a whole new class of people to these experiences that could never have been brought there before. The world is a lot more reachable and a lot more collaborative and a lot more social because of what we're doing in VR. And that's what personally gets me excited.
And on top of that, I'm seeing breakthroughs in medicine, whether it's pain management or surgery. We're seeing a technology that's going to do more than just entertain us. It's going to transform our lives. That's what gets me really excited about this.
From a developer perspective, a lot of tools that they have and their disposal now can help start, but the place to really go to find more about what developers need to do, and the tools they need to use, and how to bring those experiences to life, probably the best place is through the Intel Developer Zone. We can talk about real sense technologies. We can talk about computer vision. The physics engines that we are supporting.
The Developer Zone is also a place for where we make connections. We work very closely with a lot of the game engines that are not just pure game engines anymore. Those engines are extending across boundaries to corporate and enterprise type spaces. But if I could encourage you, I'd say go to the Intel developer website, look at VR, and get connected with us.
