André Knoerig points out that often makers build things simply to play with the technology and learn about it without a specific social goal in mind. Designers tend to approach tools with a specific purpose or idea in mind: the “what for” that drives innovation in the maker movement. This juxtaposition of “improving the tools” and “finding the what for of a technology” is where designers and makers complement each other.
