Develop Amazon Alexa* Skills for the PC
In this video, you'll get a look into how to develop Alexa* Skills on the PC. Amazon Alexa* started on the Echo, making it easy to listen to music, get information, control smart home devices and more. Using Alexa is as simple as asking a question. Now Alexa is available on Windows® 10 PCs, giving users access to the tens of thousands of skills already available on Alexa, AND new skills designed specifically for PCs.
Hello, I'm Martin Kronberg. In this video, we look into how to develop Alexa* skills on the PC. Amazon Alexa* started on the Echo, making it easy to listen to music, get information, control smart home devices, and more. Using Alexa is as simple as asking a question.
Now Alexa is available on Windows® 10 PCs, giving users access to tens of thousands of skills already available on Alexa and new skills designed specifically for PCs. The Windows 10 PC installed base represents over 800 million units of potential voice service endpoints. And today we're introducing you to the Intel PC Skills Framework.
The Framework assists developers to build skills that help focus on computer specific tasks. Intel provides the development tools Windows* developers need to deliver amazing experiences. PC-Aware skills enhance the voice experience by leveraging the open platform features of Windows, which allows developers to interact with Onboard display, Storage, Compute, and even some installed applications to deliver a delightful end-user experience.
What's great about PC optimized skills is that they can be designed to offer consumers contextually relevant experiences. They integrate into the existing Alexa ecosystem voice service so any Alexa-enabled device can interact with a PC running the Intel PC Skills Framework.
Imagine the ways untethering people from their PC will change the way they use it. They will be able to search for files, control applications, and run basic operations, just by using their voice. Let's take a look at some things PC optimized skills can do.
Many people store lots of photographs on their PCs and then struggle to find them when they want them. But what if you just had to say, Alexa, ask Helper to show pictures of my pet. Almost everyone uses their computers for productivity purposes. If you have ever been in a situation where you wanted to compare two documents, you can say, Alexa, ask Helper to arrange Word* side-by-side.
Sometimes you just have too many Windows open that clutter their screen. In those instances, you can say, Alexa, ask Helper to minimize all. For the many people who are unsure how to navigate Windows settings, they can simply use their voice to ask for help, like. Alexa, ask Helper to configure Windows Hello.
Lastly, developers can also use the browser to access the web and deliver useful capabilities. This is just a small sample of what is possible to develop with Alexa Skills and the Intel PC Skills Framework. We hope these examples inspire you to create entirely new skills and that change the way people interact with their PCs.
Developer resources are available on the Intel® Developer Zone in the links provided. In addition to delivering the framework, several skills have also been developed to serve as a reference and inspiration for you.
