Design Considerations for Network Applications on Linux*Executive SummaryIn this paper we present the outcome of research conducted to determine the most efficient ways to develop networking applications using an Intel® multi-core processor-based system and multi-queue capable network interfaces running Linux*. We analyze the hardware platform attributes, the software aspects, and provide clear guidelines for the reader about performance pitfalls. We also include pointers for improving performance when designing network applications to run at speeds of 10 Gb/s using Linux.
